CROSSWELL IMAGING VS. SURFACE SEISMIC
The Vertical Information Gap
While conventional 3D surface seismic has provided the information for discovery of many of the remaining reservoirs around the world and can generate a workable aerial view of the reservoir, this technology provides very little information about the vertical heterogeneity of a reservoir: a critical element in understanding it.
In addition, while such conventional processes as Well Logging, Core Sampling, and analysis of production data do generate vertical heterogeneity information, they are limited in scope to within a few inches of the well. And new, “deep” investigative resistivity and sonic log tools add only a few feet more to the area measured around a well.
What is missing is real information concerning the vertical distribution of heterogeneities between wells. Based on its ability to generate up to 100x the resolution of surface seismic, Crosswell Imaging can provide the level of in-depth imaging of the interwell area to meet that critical informational requirement.
