Waterflood Application
When initiating a waterflood project, operators strive for uniform reservoir re-pressurization and an increase in production from all wells. There are several reservoir factors that may impede or entirely negate the positive effects expected. Highly porous intervals and naturally occurring fractures may act as thief zones, diverting the injected water out of zone. Natural barriers such as calcite streaks or shale may act as a physical barrier to water advancement and hence stop a waterflood in its tracks.
