Waterflood Application

Waterflood ApplicationWhen initiating a waterflood project, operators strive for uniform reservoir re-pressurization and an increase in production from all wells. There are several reservoir factors that may impede or entirely negate the positive effects expected. Highly porous intervals and naturally occurring fractures may act as thief zones, diverting the injected water out of zone. Natural barriers such as calcite streaks or shale may act as a physical barrier to water advancement and hence stop a waterflood in its tracks.

The key in either case is to understand your reservoir prior to initiating a waterflood project. Engaging
Schlumberger DeepLook - CS Crosswell Seismic Imaging prior to the flood implementation can provide that critical look at the structural complexity of your reservoir. The information gathered can then be used to evaluate the chance for success in a given area or plan for remedial action such as polymer flood earlier in the life of the waterflood, saving time and money.
